Folding luggage racks: You wanted `em, you got `em!

http://blog.sandsofkahanaresort.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/luggage-rack-300x232.jpg

On our list of notable resort improvements, the addition of folding luggage racks probably doesn’t reach the level of heating the pool, installing new stainless steel appliances, or repaving the tennis courts (to name just three projects we’ve recently completed). But if you’ve ever tried to unpack your bag on a refrigerator, you know how tricky it can be. Therefore it is with great pleasure that we announce the arrival, for the first time, of new folding luggage racks to all …

Total Recall! We review all the pertinent events that made 2014 a productive year at Sands of Kahana

http://blog.sandsofkahanaresort.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/SOK-artwork1.jpg

2014 was filled with an abundance of activity at your Vacation Club. What follows are the significant events and accomplishments from the past year that will ensure your enjoyment of Sands of Kahana for years to come. One of the more anticipated projects occurred in September, when we installed pool heat pumps to take the chill off the frigid (average 80 degrees) Maui winter days. This is an amenity many of you requested, and we are happy we were able …

Family pool to receive heat pumps for winter warming

The project to install heat pumps on the family pool will begin next week. This is an amenity many of you have been asking for, and we are happy that we are now able to fulfill your requests. It will take about a week to complete, but the pool will remain open. The heat pump installation did require us to empty the pool and install a second drain to bring us into federal code compliance. That project, which included retiling and …

SOK suites to receive photogenic new artwork – soon!

http://blog.sandsofkahanaresort.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/SOK-art-beach5.jpg

The new artwork selected for our guest rooms will be arriving soon. It consists of breathtaking photographs shot right here on Maui. Each colorful photo depicts an image that is either physically or emotionally associated with the island, including native foliage, surfboards and panoramic vistas. In deciding on the photograph package over print paintings, which projected a conventional vision of generic islands, we felt the former was the ideal representation of the island we all love. Once the artwork arrives installation …

Martin Rodriguez named 2013 Employee of the Year

http://blog.sandsofkahanaresort.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Martin-Rodriguez-edit-235x300.jpg

You never truly appreciate a guy like Martin Rodriguez until something goes wrong. In the resort industry, that usually means when something breaks. Then it’s like, “Martin! Where’s Martin? Get Martin!” Martin shows up, saves the day and returns to his fix-it shop, forgotten until you need him again. Then: “Martin! Where’s Martin? Get Martin!”   On those occasions we can’t think of anyone whom we would rather answer the call – or represent us as our 2013 Hawaii Employee …

Unit forecast: Beige, with a 100 percent chance of blinds

Aloha! We are currently painting all the units from white to beige and will be replacing the horizontal blinds in selected units. Due to high occupancy we are installing the blinds on a piecemeal basis, but can assure you every unit will soon have them. The project to install new artwork and bedding will begin in earnest the first week of December. We wish you all a happy Thanksgiving and hope to see you soon.

Inside, please pay special attention to the Page 2 story in which President Richard Rodriguez urges you to beware …

SOK guest units to receive beautiful new artwork

http://blog.sandsofkahanaresort.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/Maui-art-photo2-111x150.jpg

In the Resort News and Notes section of our last newsletter, Issue 2 of the Aloha Vacationer, we told you we had narrowed down our choice of new guest unit artwork to print paintings and Maui photographs. Today we can tell you we have reached a decision. After much debate we went with the photographs. While the paintings projected an appealing if generic vision of the islands, we feel the Maui photos, with their waterfalls, surfboards, hula dancers and sunsets, are the …

Issue 2 of the Aloha Vacationer is hot off the presses

http://blog.sandsofkahanaresort.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/SOK-Issue-2-2013-231x300.jpg

The midway point of 2013 is upon us, bringing with it the promise of great times ahead. As we approach July we thought we should take stock of everything we’ve accomplished and address some of your concerns. The cover story of the latest Aloha Vacationer, penned by SOK board president Kevin Blair, details all our recent capital improvements and calls for fiscal responsibility where other projects are concerned. Kevin reminds us that while it would be nice to green light every …
